Assemble your tribe

Whether it is members of your family, friends or other people, think of some people who you would like to share this with. These will be your Tribe. They can help to cheer you on. They may just be a supportive, listening ear or they could join you so you can motivate each other.

Better together

Whilst reflective practice can be a solitary pastime, peers, friends and family have a definite role to play in helping and supporting each other.

Who can be your mind opener? Who is someone inspirational that you can chat with? Inspiration from others can motivate you to push yourself further and encourage you to challenge yourself in ways that you may not do alone.

Who can be your energiser? Who is fun to be with and will cheer you up when you’re down? This is someone who can boost your spirits. We all need a break and having a person who you go on an adventure with, engage with and escape with, even for a few moments, allows you to break out of your day-to-day routines.

Who can be your champion?  Who will support and praise you? The support from friends and family is essential in knowing that you have people in your life who care about you and recognise your strengths.

Who can be your trusted adviser? Who is someone you can confide in? Think of someone who you can talk openly with.

Who can be your navigator? Who can help when you need guidance and advice? This is someone who is great at talking through your options and will keep you moving towards your goals. Think of someone who can possibly inspire you, support you, be available as a confidant and allow you to escape all in one.

Also, think about how you can be part of a support system for someone else. Who can you watch out for and check in on regularly as they experience their own challenges and success?

Line your path with encouraging, caring and motivating people who are keen for you to succeed.

Why we need a tribe

Someone to watch over your progress

Ask someone who cares about what you are doing to be your support. They can motivate you when your enthusiasm drops.

Problem Solve

Discussing your goals and challenges with others can encourage you to articulate your thoughts and may help you to consider alternate ideas and perspectives. You may not even realise there is an opportunity to improve your approach or solve your problem until you share your ideas with others.

Create accountability

When you share your goals with others, they can help keep you accountable. Sharing your goals is an invitation for others to ask you about your progress, which encourages you to maintain momentum.

A knowledgeable other

On the path toward achieving your goals there can be many bumps and hurdles on the way. What better way to navigate through these challenges than to learn from someone else’s experience and mistakes? Seek advice from a mentor, someone who has ‘been there, done that’.

Let them know

When you ask people to be your circle of support, talk to them about the following:

  • Why you are participating in the Ninety-One Ways?
  • What do you hope to get out of the experience?
  • Be clear about your expectations. What do you need from them? There will be times when you want input and times you just need someone to listen to you; spell this out in the beginning.
